Next take your garden hose and run water into the pit of your sump pump. This might take about five minutes. Sump pumps have a “float “mechanism that triggers the pump. That’s why the water level must reach a certain point.
Once the pump starts running, check for leaks in the pipes. Also check to make sure the water is properly discharging outside the house.
